Description

At the end of the 19th century, specifically in 1898, the Benriach distillery was founded in the Spey valley. What differentiates the quality of the spirit for Benriach are the special distillation methods, the ingredients used, the distinctive copper stills, and the high-quality barrels chosen for maturation.

The Benriach 12 years Speyside Single Malt matures for 12 years in barrels from bourbon whiskey, sherry wine, and port wine, acquiring a golden bronze color. Rich and impressive aromatic and flavorful character reminiscent of cooked forest fruits, maraschino cherry, baked apple, and baked orange combined with sweet flavors reminiscent of cinnamon, maple honey, dried fruits, raisin, sultana, and fruit cake.

Notes of mocha and cocoa pleasantly balance with the nutty character, leaving a rich and long-lasting finish.

A very difficult and special whisky, especially for beginners. At first I found it a bit heavy and strict as a whisky, but over time it won me over. First of all, the whisky has excellent characteristics (specs). 46% alcohol which gives thickness and flavors and it is not chill filtered. This means the whisky has kept all its oils. The price is just fine and very affordable.

The aroma has a sense of light sweetness, fruits, caramel, but also maltiness. The taste is very thick and gives you a bit of caramel, fruits, but plenty of malt, bread, and cereals. The finish is long and you get an extra sense of malt.

It is a very balanced whisky. It is not overly sweet nor overly dry. It is malty, serious, has a sweetness to make it go down better, it is oily, thick with a strong body, and has an excellent price. So this makes it one of the best daily whiskies on the market for me. You are not afraid to finish it because it doesn't cost 200 euros. Also, it is not too sweet or the opposite. It is a strict, rich whisky. It is definitely not for everyone, but it won me over.

Very nice whiskey. One of the best I have ever tasted. This particular one has matured for 12 years in 3 different barrels. I consider it very difficult for someone to try it and not like it. It is very enjoyable to drink and I will definitely buy it again.
