Description

The "Treatise on Guidance towards Happiness" by Abū Naṣr al-Fārābī (circa 870-950 AD) is an ethical treatise, the content of which is a call to achieve true happiness through the supreme science of philosophy.

The study of philosophy through the study of logic cultivates the intellectual abilities of man and enables him to distinguish the true from the false, so that he can act correctly in everything he does and throughout his life.

As al-Fārābī argues, the combination of cultivating moral virtues along with intellectual virtues is the path to acquiring virtue and achieving happiness.

The treatise is based on Greek works that were translated into Arabic in the 9th century, namely the Arabic translation of Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics and the unknown commentaries of Porphyry (234 - circa 305 AD) on the Nicomachean Ethics.
