Description & Specifications

This book aims to serve as a practical guide with clear positions on theological, liturgical, and pastoral issues regarding the crucial and sensitive topic of spiritual ministry in healthcare institutions and alongside the suffering fellow human beings.

The pages examine the institutional framework of the Church's presence in these institutions, propose a specific method for conducting the Sacraments of Confession, Anointing of the Sick, and Holy Communion, while also making special mention of the significant issue of Baptism of Necessity, providing a defined liturgical order and practical instructions.

Particular attention is also given to the care of the deceased after their stay in healthcare facilities. By documenting the Holy Physicians – patrons of the sick, as well as publishing a Nursing Prayer Book, this study aims to be a useful manual in the daily lives of clergy in sensitive areas that primarily welcome human pain and provide solutions to practical problems and questions, clarifying the largely vague and "as deemed appropriate" framework for the application of pastoral ministry.

Archimandrite Nikolaos Papageorgiou is the head of the Holy Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior of the Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki, responsible priest of the "Hippocratic" Hospital of Thessaloniki, and head of the Holy Cemetery Church of the Resurrection of the Lord of the Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki. He is a graduate of the Theology Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) and holds a master's degree in Orthodox Theology and Christian Culture, specializing in Applied Theology, from the Department of Social Theology and Christian Culture of AUTH.

His activities primarily concern the pastoral and liturgical ministry of the priest in the sensitive areas of healthcare institutions and cemeteries. He shows particular concern and interest in the pedagogical and spiritual formation of children, through the establishment and operation of a parish ecclesiastical summer camp "Tabor" of the Holy Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior of the Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki.
