The HOYA Fog No 0.5 features a frosted surface that lightly covers the entire image in a pleasant dreamy fog effect. However, compared to other soft filters from HOYA, objects in the photograph remain sharp and in contrast.

The effect can vary by changing the lens aperture, but if you stop down too much, you will reduce the effect. There are two HOYA Fog filters, Fog No 0.5 and the stronger Fog No 1. Both can be used together to create an effect similar to dense fog.

The HOYA Fog No 0.5 filter uses special slotted glass to achieve the effect. A piece of this glass is laminated along with a clear optical element, giving it a special sandwich structure that creates the fog effect.

What makes the soft effect of Fog No 0.5 truly unique is that it enhances the bright areas in the image in a way that makes them appear as glowing objects.
