Form Factor

The term form factor refers to the physical size of SSDs. The motherboard must support the form factor of the SSD in order for it to be installed.

The higher speeds offered by an NVMe drive are mainly applicable to demanding applications (such as high-definition video processing, transferring large files, etc.) and are not necessary for everyday use.

M.2 (Type 2280)
The motherboard must support the form factor in order for the SSD to be installed on it. It is worth noting that M.2 drives are divided into those that use the SATA protocol and those that use PCI Express. Of the SSDs that use the PCI Express protocol, most also support NVMe technology, which allows them even faster speeds if supported by the motherboard.

WD Black, the name speaks for itself. The best series of SSD and HDD drives from WD with very good speeds. The purchase choice was made because I had an external WD Black 4TB for the PS4 and I am still very satisfied with my purchase. It has been working almost every day for 4 years without any issues

I replaced a Samsung 870 QVO SSD 2TB SATA with the NVMe SN850X 2TB. Everything seems to load slightly faster. The measurements in crystalDiskMark are slightly lower than those provided by the manufacturer. It was installed in a PC with i5-12600K with Windows 11 23H2. Time will tell how long it will last in the long term.

Installation in a laptop with a PCI Express 4.0 slot primary SSD. I noticed a big difference overall compared to the 980 Pro. The speeds are close to the promised ones, it has DRAM, and the accompanying software is less bloated than Samsung Magician. The temperatures are at reasonable levels, with or without a heatsink. In the current generation and until Gen 5 NVMe SSDs become more widespread, I would prefer it over Samsung. Value for money, without sacrificing performance.

I considered and still consider Samsung to be top in memory, but the disk positively surprised me. I had only purchased external hard drives from WD, so I made the move to SSDs. I wanted the disk to have DRAM, so the WD Black series along with the 980 Pro and 990 Pro were my main choices.
The speeds are exactly as advertised. I use it as a boot drive, really fast. It also has software, but I haven't messed with it much. It slightly falls behind the 990 Pro but costs significantly less (I bought it for 150€), so I preferred to keep those 25€ in my pocket. For the minimal use so far, as the system was recently built, I have absolutely no issues. Well done WD, I sincerely hope it stands the test of time.

The most affordable and reliable choice both in terms of reading and writing speed. I made a mistake at first and ordered the option with cooling, but Skroutz corrected my order without charging me anything. Now, with the SSD, I wanted something fast so it wouldn't bottleneck with the graphics card, and it really has an effect that I wouldn't have with others. The motherboard has two more slots and I'm thinking of adding another one within the next 6 months!

This review is about the capacity: 4000 GB

Second review for the 4TB, as I have already reviewed the same disk with a capacity of 1TB!!

Excellent disk!! And just the name WD is a guarantee of course!
I have the same disk in capacities of 1TB (Operating disk) and 4TB (Storage space) and I am ABSOLUTELY satisfied!!
As for the read and write speeds, I think the screenshot from Crystal Disk Mark .... says it all!!

Apart from the known and top-notch performances, I chose it for its durability over time. As a developer, reliability is important to me. I was torn between the WD's rival, the Samsung 990 Pro, and this one. The choice for me was clear from the moment that WD uses the charge trap topology as opposed to Samsung's floating gate topology. WD's topology experiences less stress as it is an insulator unlike Samsung's, resulting in lower operating voltages and thus less memory cell degradation over time. The result is greater reliability over time.

It is used in a new build exclusively for gaming, on an Asus x670e-f motherboard, with the motherboard's heatsink. Good temperatures, very fast... I haven't checked read/write speeds, etc. since it satisfies me completely for its use, a big difference (per game of course) compared to the old SATA SSD I had... durability remains to be seen, all good for now...

It does what it promises, I have 2, one Western Digital Black SN850X W/o Heatsink SSD 2TB M.2 NVMe PCI Express 4.0 and one Western Digital Black SN850X With Heatsink SSD 1TB M.2 NVMe PCI Express 4.0. The one with the Heatsink from the Company is about 4-5 degrees cooler than the other one, with the Heatsink of the Motherboard that I installed on it

I have the regular Western Digital Black SN850 1TB for Windows 11 and the 2TB SN850X for games. It has the same speed as the Samsung 990 PRO SSD 2TB M.2 but -50€

I've had it for 5 months now, it doesn't flinch at anything. For gaming, it's overkill of course.
