Galatsi, from its creation as an Athenian settlement in the early 1900s to the present day - the first volume up to 1974, and the current second volume up to 2000 - unfolds in the pages of these books.
What was the area like in the early 20th century? When and from where did the first settlers come? Why did they choose Galatsi and how were they able to root themselves on the rocky ground? What were their occupations and what traces did they leave behind? How did the current urban situation, which troubles us, arise? How did the name GALATSI come to be used, and when did this happen? How did the large properties come into existence?
From the author's note: "…I went back a century, to the residential beginnings of this particular area, and began to seek how the region was, who first inhabited it and from where they came, why they chose it as their home, what challenges they faced in their settlement, their occupations, and how the name Galatsi came about. How they tamed and transformed an untouched natural environment into an urban space. What traces they left in their wake. What was preserved, what was destroyed and why."
The present-day Galatsi, where daily life is experienced with negative feelings and disappoints its residents, is the result of what has happened, how it happened, and what did not occur, although it was absolutely necessary and feasible. In the atmosphere that was created during the reference period of the second volume, people both famous and unknown, from all political spaces, repeatedly tried but failed to rise above our party, ideological, and personal references and agree on a "common minimum," essential for overturning the mayoral establishment that literally "took root" in Galatsi.
Thus, responsibilities are traceable to all those of us who, in these thirty (30) years, contributed positively or negatively to the shaping of this establishment, and separately to each of us who, from various positions, played an active role in local affairs... The pages of this second volume highlight the missed opportunities of the post-coup era that, even on a local level, in many cities of our country would have created different living conditions for their residents.
