Description & Specifications

The work The Trojan War Will Not Take Place was presented in 1935. War already occupied an important place in Girondou's works; this time, however, it becomes the sole subject of the work, just as it was the sole subject of the discussions and anxieties of all of Europe.

How can one talk about war without igniting passions? The solution is found. It certainly speaks of war, but its characters are the faces of the Iliad. The peace group features Hector, his wife, and his mother. Hector has just returned from war and has no desire to start again.

The other group includes those who try to present war as inevitable. Priam and the poet Democritus; a poet because he creates war songs - at heart, he is a journalist charged with propaganda. Between the two factions is Helen, the pretext and the gain of the battle; the charming and fragile Helen makes no choice. She raises no objections and will do whatever is asked of her. In fact, she helps Hector in his efforts.

And we see the doors of war closing slowly. The first step has been achieved. But no! - because Hector has to fight from the beginning with an obstacle that is invisible and much more questionable than the first: represented by the gods and by fate. War will ultimately take place.
