In the course of his research, the author clarifies not only the multifaceted role of humor in Beckett's paradoxical work but also the views of those thinkers who confront metaphysical pretension and the bureaucratic or other forms of violence it entails.

Instead of such violence, the author argues in favor of a new conception of justice, thanks to the revitalizing effect of Beckett's "misanthropic" humor. Tsakalakis's book constitutes a significant contribution to the field of Beckett studies.
