Description

Description

This work has such a structure and internal composition that it can serve simultaneously as a reliable informative read for the general reader, a reference book for the untrained social or historical scientist, a primary manual for students of educational sciences, and a working tool for specialists studying the history of education in modern Greece.

The chapters of the book follow the established chronological distinctions in the field with conventionally-symbolic boundaries of 1833 and 2000. However, the intended interpretive approach to the main characteristics of modern Greek education is also undertaken by examining certain topics in timeless sections.

The user is additionally facilitated with tables, diagrams, an index, and a user-friendly system of internal references.

In considering the course of events, actions, and texts (both from the respective authority and those who contest it), the emphasis is placed on seeking their essential meaning. For this reason, references to events and figures from general history or other specific branches are frequent, as well as the presentation of visual material and characteristic excerpts from texts of every era.
