Description

In a sense, this is a political phenomenon. More than 60 years at the forefront. Contested, denounced, vilified, sometimes slandered, yet incredibly resilient. And always a key player, a fighter, a bearer of banners in battles, unwaveringly loyal to two steadfast ideas: liberalism and 'Mitsotakisism.'

Author of the much-publicized, due to the Apostasy, second volume of the president's biography more than twenty-five years ago, and since then a constant interlocutor, political 'confessor' and 'interrogator,' Professor Thanasis Diamantopoulos attempts through this work to sketch a portrait of the Cretan leader (and through this, to capture the main characteristics of the political life of the country during the nearly seven decades of his active engagement).

'Bulky,' 'immense,' 'a man-orchestra,' but also 'cynical,' 'local chief,' 'voluntarist without measure,' 'incapable of self-criticism,' 'family patriarch,' 'narcissistic,' or 'self-involved' are some of the labels the author believes can relatively accurately describe the phenomenon of 'Kostas Mitsotakis.' At the same time, of course, the relationships of the Chaniot politician with other major figures of the period are analyzed, first and foremost Konstantinos Karamanlis and Andreas Papandreou, as well as Sophocles Venizelos, George Papandreou, George Rallis, Kostas Karamanlis, Antonis Samaras, among others, are carefully examined even from a psychological perspective.
