Description

Description

Any effort for legislative harmonization in the international arena requires delicate comparative balances between individual national rules, especially in the field of procedural law, where the ethnocentric rule forum regit processum predominates.

For this reason, studies in this specific subject, in addition to their obvious practical significance in understanding foreign legal systems that affect domestic practice, always illuminate the key points upon which the harmonization of procedural law in the international sphere can be based.

In the evolution of comparative procedural law, the internationally renowned, philhellenic German Professor Peter Gilles played a pioneering role, who recently passed away. As he noted during his inauguration as an Honorary Doctor of the Faculty of Law at A.U.Th., “what is currently at the center is the ... function of comparative procedural law within the frameworks of internationalization and globalization ...” where “it fulfills ... its most important function by achieving the inevitable groundwork for the harmonization of procedural laws ...”.

This volume, dedicated to the memory of Prof. Gilles, with studies from academics who have been associated with him in collegial, friendly, or student relationships, highlights precisely the practical significance of comparative procedural law and the magnitude of its contribution to the harmonization of international procedural law.

With this content, it is included in the parallel publications of the journal Lex&Forum “Opera Juris,” where contributions to European private/international procedural law are published, which due to their breadth cannot be included in the individual issues of the journal.
