The Hoya Variable 3-400 is a variable neutral density (ND) filter that controls the amount of light entering the camera lens using two polarizing layers. Adjust the filter by rotating its ring between the “Min” and “Max” markings. Light transmission ranges from 1/3 to 1/400, corresponding to a reduction of 1.5 to 9 stops.
Controlling the amount of light allows you to use a wide aperture in sunny conditions or reduce the shutter speed for motion shots. A tripod is recommended when shooting at slow shutter speeds.
