Description

Description

The book is primarily aimed at students of linguistics who wish to acquire either introductory or more specialized knowledge of the scientific field of phonology. It could also serve as a useful read for educators dealing with language issues, specialists in phonological disorders, and those with a broader interest in the field of phonology.

Undoubtedly, the range of phonological data is quite extensive, and the theoretical models proposed for their analysis are diverse and multifaceted. However, we chose to focus on phenomena and processes whose study has contributed to defining what constitutes a phonological problem and has led to the development of inspired theoretical frameworks for their interpretation and analysis.

Although the focus in several chapters is on Greek, frequently referring to its dialectal varieties, the main aim of the book is to highlight and discuss the most significant aspects of the phonological grammar of natural languages, bringing the reader into contact with a wide typological range of linguistic systems.

Also among the primary goals of the book is to familiarize the reader with the basic phonological terms, the phonological processes that occur cross-linguistically, and the theoretical models that have defined the character and evolution of the field. The author is a professor of Linguistics at the Department of Philology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
