Everything depends on the price for what they offer, and of course, if all single malt whiskies were given to us for free, it would be something exceptional to have at home. But that's not the case, so everyone needs to search for what is worth their time and money.
I found this particular one at a very good price (34 euros), the truth is that this should be its real price and not the current one. The prices of single malt whiskies in general have skyrocketed to unreasonable levels in recent years, either due to the overall crisis or because the category is going through a golden age, where even the last Grant's releases 12 and 18-year-old editions for exorbitant amounts. Prices will eventually come back down, but in the meantime, we need to see what is the best we can do with the many whiskies available.
Here we have the single malt that gives the flavor (whatever flavor that may be) to the well-known Dewar's - a Dewar's has a little bit of it and the rest is filled with cheap grain whisky, Aberfeldy being the distillery. With Dewar's having a large audience and probably the opportunity for profit, they decided to release it as a standalone product, so now it exists in various editions, such as 12, 18 years, etc.
It goes without saying that it is smooth, that it has a taste that we won't find in a 20-25 euro whisky, that it won't give us a harsh alcohol sensation - these apply to all single malts. It won't stand out, it's something we expect. We won't praise it just for that, after all, we pay for it in the price.
On the nose, honey, citrus, hints of vanilla; on the palate, citrus, sweetness, a hint of oak acidity, generally fruity. The sensation of being light is rather disappointing, I wouldn't call it silky smooth. The finish is of medium duration, malt, orange oils, sometimes something like butterscotch.
It is a typical, rather very typical Highland whisky, I don't distinguish it as a particularly unique flavor profile. For 40+ euros, I don't even discuss it, but even at a lower price, I don't see a reason to buy it again, it's better to try something new.

Το συγκεκριμένο το βρήκα σε μια πολύ καλή τιμή (34ε), η αλήθεια είναι πως αυτή θα έπρεπε να ειναι η πραγματική τιμή του και όχι η τωρινή. Οι τιμές των single malt γενικά έχουν εκτοξευτεί σε παράλογα επίπεδα τα τελευταία χρόνια, λόγω γενικότερης κρίσης, είτε επειδή το είδος διανύει μια χρυσή εποχή όπου και το τελευταίο Grant's που λέει ο λόγος κυκλοφορεί εκδόσεις των 12 και 18 χρόνων για υπέρογκα ποσά. Οι τιμές θα επανέρθουν, στο μεταξύ βλέπουμε τι καλύτερο μπορούμε να κάνουμε μέσα στα τόσα ουίσκυ που υπάρχουν.
Εδώ έχουμε το single malt που δίνει την γεύση (την όποια γεύση δλδ) στο γνωστό Dewar's - ένα Dewar's έχει λίγο απο αυτό δλδ και το υπόλοιπο γεμίζεται με φτηνό grain whisky, το Aberfeldy είναι το αποστακτήριο. Με το Dewar's να εχει ενα μεγάλο κοινό και μάλλον την ευκαιρία για κέρδος, είπαν να το κυκλοφορήσουν καθεαυτό, οπότε υπάρχει πλεον σε διάφορες εκδόσεις, των 12, 18 ετών κλπ.
Εννοείται πως είναι απαλό, πως έχει ενα γευστικό στόμα που δεν θα βρούμε σε ένα ουίσκυ των 20-25ευρώ, πως δεν θα μας δώσει αίσθηση σκληρής αλκοόλης, αυτά ισχύουν με όλα τα single malt. Δεν θα το ξεχωρίσουν δλδ, είναι κάτι που το περιμένουμε. Δεν θα το παινέψουμε μόνο για αυτό, εξάλλου αυτό το πληρώνουμε στην τιμή.
Στην μύτη, μέλι, εσπεριδοειδή, υποψίες βανίλιας, στο στόμα, εσπεριδοειδή, γλύκα, μια οξύτητα απο το βαρέλι, γενικά φρουτώδες. Αίσθηση του αραιού, μάλλον απογοητευτική, δεν θα το έλεγα silky smooth. Επίγευση μέτριας διάρκειας, βύνη, έλαια πορτοκαλιού, ενίοτε κάτι σε butterscotch.
Είναι ένα τυπικό, μάλλον πολύ τυπικό Highland, δεν το ξεχωρίζω σαν ιδιαίτερο το γευστικό τοπίο, για 40+ ευρώ δεν το συζητώ, αλλά και σε μια χαμηλότερη τιμή δεν βρίσκω τον λόγο να το ξαναπάρω, καλύτερα να δοκιμάσω ένα καινούριο.
