Description & Specifications

From the mid-1950s to the mid-1970s, there was an intense dialogue around the issue of the justification of man. It is the time when the Orthodox world is being led to liberation from a peculiar captivity to Western-type piety, into the emergence of ecclesiastical life and a reconnection with the theology of the Church Fathers.

Within this dynamic, the late Panagiotis Nellas will offer us in 1975 his study on Kavasilas. And we will learn from this study that until the 14th century, shortly before the fall of the City, the faithful of the Orthodox Tradition continued to perceive their relationship with God as a righteousness of love. A God of love calls to a communion of love.

Kavasilas, consistent in the stance of biblical and patristic theology, opposes the currents of his time that seek to infiltrate the world of Orthodoxy from the West and distort the faith of the people, presenting the spiritual experience of the Church’s teachers and explaining that the path of salvation is characterized by the communion of the thought and will of man with the thought and will of Christ.

Communion of flesh and blood, that is, Divine Communion, communion of the mind, that is, the deposit and expression of faith, communion of will, that is, active holiness through good works, these three manifestations of the pious life permeate History and lead it to the glory of the Kingdom.

Kavasilas further tells us that the central axis of such a pious life has a liturgical character, and indeed a Eucharistic one.
