thanks! we replaced the batteries again and it worked!
i know, we put new batteries inside. in fact, you can hear the motor trying to move the lid, but it seems it's not powerful enough for that. as you move the palm on top of the lid, the engine starts humming (and is humming for a while) but the lid is not moving.
