The language is an essential term of human knowledge, the process through which experience becomes knowledge. Man does not simply learn language as a type of learning, but through it, he shapes his identity, his perceptions of social processes, his beliefs, ideas, and knowledge.

The recognition of the importance of language and its mediating role in cognitive development is the common thread that connects the articles in this volume, authored by significant university teachers and experts. Some texts address issues of language teaching, whether mother tongue or foreign/second language. Others examine the disorders and neurophysiological mechanisms of language development. Some focus on issues of understanding and meaning-making of written discourse, while finally, some analyze more specific issues related to language.

This volume is dedicated to Professor Michalis Vamboukas, the teacher and researcher who served the field with passion and integrity for more than 25 years, significantly contributing to the education of future educators and the in-service training and retraining of active teachers in research methodology and language teaching. This book is a small tribute to him and his work.
