In June 2005, four U.S. Navy SEALs departed from their base in Afghanistan bound for the Pakistani border. Their mission was to capture or eliminate a ruthless Al Qaeda leader who was holed up in a Taliban stronghold, surrounded by a small but heavily armed force. Less than twenty-four hours later, only one of the Navy SEALs had survived. This is the story of the team leader, Marcus Luttrell, the sole survivor of Operation Redwing. He was knocked unconscious by a rocket and tumbled down a cliff but remained armed and alive. Luttrell fought for four desperate days against Al Qaeda killers before finding refuge with a Pashtun tribe who risked everything to protect him from the Taliban pursuers.
