Published by IANOS Publications, the book by Demosthenis I. Xifilinou titled "Oscar for Best Picture" is now available. It is a full-color book consisting of reviews of the 93 films that have won the Best Picture statuette from 1929 to 2021.
Despite any objections that any of us may have regarding the awards of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, or indeed to any award-giving institution in general, the Oscar award is undeniably the most famous and coveted prize internationally, the ultimate moment of joy for those who receive it. In this book, we attribute “What is Caesar's to Caesar,” meaning we venture into a critical retrospective of the most significant Oscar, that of Best Picture. From the distant 1929 and "Wings" to "Nomadland" (2021). Seven years before the centenary of the first ceremony, let us remember together, with the -always subjective, how else?- perspective of the author many great, but also quite overrated films that have won the statuette. “And the Oscar went to...” then!

A graduate of the Law School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, but also a cinema enthusiast, he started writing about the seventh art and other cultural topics for the newspaper Macedonia with its reissue in 1998, a collaboration that continued for more than ten years. His entry into the field was preceded by his involvement with the historical black-and-white cultural publication Exostis, of which he was the editor-in-chief for seven years (2003-2009), as well as of the similarly black-and-white (as well as other beautiful things in life) film noir (2011-15), which was "born" from the same group of people behind that "Exostis."
