In this volume are included "hymns" and "hymn preludes", which have been attributed to Homer since ancient times, and the parodic epic "Batrachomyomachia", which parodies the Homeric Iliad and is also attributed to the great epic poet.
It contains a very interesting introduction, which informs us about the main causes that led to the loss of many works of ancient Greek literature, and three epigrams.
- The first of these includes translated sixteen "Homer's epigrams".
- The second - which is a mythological "epigram" - provides brief but sufficient information about the deities hymned in the Homeric hymns.
- The third presents the translated, designed, and interpreted Batrachomyomachia, a charming parody - and the only one that has been preserved from the archaic literature of ancient Greek literature - of the great Homeric epic.
This "parahomeric" volume refers to the first two volumes of our series "Translated authors of ancient Greek literature", the Homeric Iliad and the Homeric Odyssey.
