Description

Description

During the interwar period, there were various cafés and taverns around Vourla for patrons, sailors, and crews of the fleets coming to Piraeus to entertain themselves. However, they celebrated alone, without the presence of women, because the prostitutes were confined in Vourla. Thus, cabarets slowly sprouted in Troumba; to have fun with women and, most importantly, to spend money. And when Vourla closed, the prosperity of Troumba began.

Much has been said about Troumba. For the Church, it was the place of debauchery. For the state, the immoral brake on its work. For the respectable residents, the shame of Piraeus. For sailors, a place of entertainment and revelry. For teenagers, the initiation into love. For prostitutes, a refuge from society's contempt. And for madams and pimps, an easy way to make money.
