Description

Description

The soil moisture sensor can read the amount of moisture present in the surrounding soil. Ideal for monitoring an urban garden or the water level of your potted plant. This sensor is essential for an IoT garden/Agriculture!

The new soil moisture sensor uses an Immersion Gold plug that protects the nickel from oxidation. It has several advantages over more conventional coatings like HASL, including excellent flat surface, good oxidation resistance, and usability on untreated contact surfaces.

This Arduino soil moisture sensor uses two protrusions to pass current through the soil and then reads the resistance to determine the moisture level. More water makes the soil more conductive, while dry soil has higher resistance. This sensor will be useful to remind you to water your indoor plants or monitor the soil moisture in your garden.

For easier use of this sensor, a Gravity interface has been adapted to allow for direct connection. The Arduino IO expansion shield is the best option for this sensor. It can operate at 3.3V, making it compatible with Raspberry Pi, Intel Edison, Joule, and Curie.

Note: If you plan to place the sensor in very moist soil, this may cause surface corrosion of the sensor in a few days, so the use of the analog soil moisture sensor - Corrosion Resistant is recommended.
