The first volume of the historical and archaeological journey "At the Crossroads of Argolis" served as the impetus for a broader interest regarding this nerve center of the southern Greek territory, which until then remained on the margins of scientific research.
In the 25 years since that volume was awarded by the Academy of Athens, newer archaeological discoveries and historical research have established this geographic "crossroads" among reference points in the scientific investigation of prehistoric and ancient Greek times.
With the publication of the second volume of this long-term work, starting from the late Roman and early Christian centuries, but also with a fragmentary approach to later periods of local interest, it offers in the form of a chronicle and without ambitions of scientific authorship a general picture of the coastal and insular area of southeastern Argolid, aspiring to serve as a database for future researchers.
In the laborious effort of the author, significant support was provided, in addition to the co-traveler and co-researcher Dimitrios N. Artemis, by local archaeologists and historians as well as simple people from the mountains and the sea, whose opinions and suggestions defined the framework of this second retrospective on the past of the Argolic Gulf.
In the long series of thanks, the Society of Peloponnesian Studies, the Society of Kytherian Studies, the Monemvasia Club, the municipalities of Poros, Hydra, Ermioni, and Spetses, as well as the Association of Ecologists of Hydra, hold a special place for the conferences, presentations, and workshops they organized, which served as the impetus for the publication of individual studies that comprise the present edition.
Finally, thanks are also extended to all the archaeologists and historians of the area in question, who supplemented the author's research with their knowledge.
