Description

Description

The massive movement of people on a global scale affects the demographic composition of host countries of migrants and represents a significant factor in shaping the multicultural character of their societies.

The main challenge that multicultural societies are currently facing lies primarily in organizing the relationships between locals and foreigners in such a way that their encounter does not lead to conflicts, but to the creative interaction of their cultures.

The educational system, as the primary institution supporting individuals in their processes of social and cultural integration, is called to play a significant role in creating conditions for the acceptance and recognition of pluralism and otherness as fundamental characteristics of social existence.

Of course, fulfilling this role is not feasible without adapting the educational system itself to the new socialization data shaped by multiculturalism.

The process of adapting education to the reality of linguistic pluralism and the pluralism of cultural capitals requires overcoming its traditional monocultural and monolingual character and redefining the term general education with regard to pluralism and diversity.
