The Norman Protege B18 Cutaway Mini Jumbo Cherry Burst is an acoustic-electric guitar made in Canada by the Godin Guitars group. It features a Mini Jumbo body shape with a cutaway, providing balanced acoustic resonance and easy access to the higher frets. The top is made from selected pressure-tested solid cedar, while the back and sides are made from three-ply laminated wild cherry. For stage and studio amplification, the instrument comes factory-equipped with the Fishman Presys II (or Fishman Sonitone) acoustic-electric system, which includes a built-in digital tuner and EQ controls. The guitar features a silver leaf maple neck with an Integrated Set Neck joint, a rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and a protective Semi-Gloss Custom Polished finish.

Wood Selection & Acoustic Geometry Mini Jumbo Cutaway

The Norman B18 Mini Jumbo Cutaway combines the curves of a jumbo body with slightly more compact proportions and a narrower waist, preventing an excessive buildup of bass frequencies and providing clear note separation. The top is made from Pressure Tested Solid Cedar, a lower-density wood than spruce, known for its warm tonal response, rich harmonic spectrum and immediate responsiveness, even with a light fingerstyle touch. The back and sides are made from Wild Cherry, combining mahogany-like midrange characteristics with the clarity of maple in the treble for a balanced frequency response.

Integrated Set-Neck Construction & Ergonomics

The neck is crafted from Silver Leaf Maple and features Godin’s proprietary Integrated Set Neck construction. This design maintains a stable neck angle despite changes in temperature and humidity, preventing warping and ensuring continuous transfer of mechanical energy directly to the body. The 24.84" (630.94 mm) scale length creates slightly lower string tension than standard dreadnought scales, making bends and demanding chords easier to play.

Fishman Electronic Preamp System

For electro-acoustic amplification, the instrument is equipped with the Fishman Presys II preamp system, which works with a flexible piezoelectric pickup mounted beneath the saddle. The side-mounted control unit provides Volume, Bass and Treble controls, as well as a Phase switch for immediately suppressing acoustic feedback on stage. It also includes a built-in digital chromatic tuner with a clear LED display and an automatic output mute function while tuning.

Graphtech Tusq Parts & Custom Polished Finish

The fingerboard and bridge are made of solid rosewood, offering resistance to mechanical wear and a smooth playing surface. The 1.72" (43.69 mm) nut and saddle are made of synthetic Graphtech Tusq, which provides uniform density without natural imperfections, ensuring accurate intonation and seamless sound-wave transmission. The body is finished with an exceptionally thin coat of Semi-Gloss Custom Polished Finish in Cherry Burst, protecting the wood without restricting the soundboard’s natural vibration.
