The Lycurgus Tetralogy of Aeschylus was presented at the theater of Athens around 460 BC, just a few years after the similarly titled tetralogy by the poet Polyphrastus (467 BC), during a time when the established Athenian League was vying for influence in the regions of Pangaios and Strymon.
From the tetralogy of Polyphrastus only the title has survived, but from Aeschylus's Lycurgus some meager fragments are preserved that may lead us to reconstruct the dramatic events.
