Description

Description

The publication of this volume marks the celebration of the two-hundredth anniversary of the Greek Bible Society. In July 2019, the Greek Bible Society completed 200 years of presence and contribution in Greece (1819-2019). Throughout its long history, the Greek Bible Society has made the translation, publication, and dissemination of the Holy Scripture in the most comprehensible language possible its primary mission.

The studies featured in this commemorative volume are authored by friends and collaborators of the Greek Bible Society, members of the Churches, and prominent theologians from Greece and abroad. Beginning with the early steps of the Greek Bible Society and the presentation of its multifaceted work, the volume's focus soon shifts to a broader study of the history of translation in the early Church and in modern times, as well as an analysis of the act and significance of translation through specific biblical examples. In this dual axis of history and translational practice, the range of questions attempts to illuminate various aspects of the past and further engage with the interests and demands of contemporary theological thought.

Starting from this synthetic perspective, the studies in this volume map out a space for dialogue between the rich legacy of the study and translation of the Holy Scripture and the conditions, as well as the principles, of contemporary scientific discourse.

Scientific committee: Rev. George Adam, Christos Karakolis, Fr. Markos Foskolos
