The inclusion of a commemorative volume for the 100th anniversary of the Lyceum of Greek Women in the publications of the Cultural Foundation of Piraeus Bank Group was a challenge for the Foundation.

It was a challenge because the century-long lifespan and the character of a women's association that has intertwined its actions with many aspects of the recent history of our country made the endeavor extremely difficult.

Additionally, one must consider the difficulties that the Lyceum of Greek Women continues to exist, to contribute, and to be evaluated for its significant cultural and social actions today.

We responded to the challenge as both the president and the Board of Directors of the Lyceum of Greek Women agreed with the idea that this anniversary publication should represent a contemporary historical perspective, with texts from esteemed scholars, each an expert by definition on the topic they undertook to approach.

At the same time, another very positive aspect contributed to the quality of the volume: the valuable archives of the Lyceum of Greek Women, to which the researcher-authors had guaranteed access.

All of this determined the thematic content of the publication and allowed, through different approaches, to present as comprehensively and objectively as possible the history of this century-long action.
