Perhaps the most well-known form of energy to us, the one we perceive directly with our senses, is heat. Heat is so important for our lives that almost all peoples created myths about how humans acquired fire to be able to keep warm. The ancient Greeks created the myth of Prometheus, who stole fire from the gods and brought it to humans, while in their religion Hephaestus held an important position as the god of fire. Heat is a form of energy that is transferred from one body to another when these two bodies have different temperatures. This flow of heat occurs from the body with the higher temperature to the body with the lower temperature. When the two bodies reach the same temperature, we say that these bodies are in thermal equilibrium.
