MPPT Charging Controllers determine the appropriate charging levels for batteries, providing minimal losses in their actual performance. Compared to PWM, which distributes about 80% of the generated energy from the photovoltaic panel to the batteries, approximately 20% of the remaining energy is lost because simple PWM charging controllers do not detect the maximum power point of the photovoltaic panel.

The smart functions of an MPPT controller regarding the charging and equalization of batteries ensure better charging and maintenance, resulting in an extension of their lifespan.

MPPT charging controllers are ideal for larger systems where the additional 20% or more energy collection is worthwhile and in cases where the voltage of the solar array is significantly higher than the battery voltage, e.g., using home panels.
