The virus is the mirror of our society. It reveals the kind of society we live in. Today, survival acquires absolute priority, as if we are in a constant state of war. All vital forces are put in the service of prolonging life. The society of comfort appears as a society of survival. [...] The virus invades the comforting zone of well-being and turns it into quarantine, in which life is limited exclusively to survival. The more life becomes survival, the greater the fear of death. [...] The epidemic makes death visible again, which we had diligently repressed and hidden away. [...] The prolongation of life at any cost emerges globally as the highest value, which puts all others in second place. We are willing to sacrifice in the name of survival all that makes life worth living.
