The modern spirit was the most significant force in redefining architecture and art across Europe in the 1920s and 1930s. The versions of modernism in interwar Athens became meeting points for the creative forces of the time, alongside a social reality that sought "modernization" without renouncing history and traditions.

The urban apartment buildings in the center of Athens and the small single-family homes in the suburbs, the simple schools in all neighborhoods, and the social welfare buildings - sanatoriums, hospitals, children's cities - provided, alongside art and discourse, a measure of a collective effort that survives to this day.

We are once again turning our eyes to this era because we believe it still has much to tell us, more than what we already know, especially now that the demand for modernity is relevant again, as it was then.
