Description

The Alpha 50 Evo is the ideal speaker for nearfield monitoring. Thanks to its technologies, including a 13 cm Slatefiber woofer, it delivers plenty of dynamics and mix detail, an extremely neutral tonal balance that remains the same at both low and high volumes, and excellent sound coherence, regardless of the listening environment. Its compact design and multiple features make it a versatile piece of equipment.

Like the Alpha 65 and Alpha 80, the Alpha 50 Evo also features a wide range of features, such as TRS, XLR and RCA inputs, automatic standby mode with the option to disable it, wall and ceiling mounting inserts...

High Noise Levels

Its two amplifiers provide high current capacity, for full control of the signal dynamics. This also allows high sound levels to be achieved without distortion.

Modern Design

The bass-reflex design, rounded contours, and sturdy side panels make the Alpha Evo a modern piece of equipment for perfect acoustic integration in any workspace.

  • Aluminum tweeter: High-fidelity treble
  • Slate diaphragm: Dynamic and balanced sound

After many years, my old Fostex PM-2 MKII broke down, and I started researching new 5-inch studio monitors. After continuous searching, I ended up choosing between the Kali LP6 2nd Wave and these here. The Focal. In the end, I bought the Focal because they come with protective grilles included in the package, which are incredibly convenient if you have a family and kids, in case they might touch the speakers. The design and build quality are quite evident the first time you see them. The speakers were paired with Oyaide d+ Class B TRS cables. But the real surprise came when I started listening to them. I was blown away by the quality of the sound. Clear highs, mids, and lows with the frequencies not getting mixed up. The bass is rich without sounding muddy. You can truly hear everything! Literally! The sound is crystal clear. And they appear quite flat. They don't seem to try to emphasize any specific frequency range to deceive you. Also, another thing that impressed me is their stereo imaging. I don't know how it is with other speakers in this category, but it's simply impressive. Also, when nothing is playing, there is no sound coming from the speakers, no noise, and I really liked that they have auto on/off when an audio signal is detected or not. All of this in a simple room with the speakers placed on a computer desk, of course, at head height. In a room that is more appropriately designed, they will perform even better. Lastly, it was also nice that in the package, along with the protective grilles, they included adhesive feet that you can stick under the speakers, so the bottom of the speaker doesn't touch the furniture.

I tried them about a year ago, and I have to say they are the best. Before buying them, I compared them to the Yamaha HS7 (6.5 woofer), while these are 5 and in the subs it's like day and night, the Focal ones have much more (not excessive, just as much as they should have) and to clarify, the Focal ones have a response of -45 Hz (+-3db), while the Yamaha (HS7) have -43Hz but at -10db and flat at 55Hz, so yes, there are generally traps and you need to read correctly before you buy. Also, I have no issue with the Yamaha, I just listened to them up close and have an opinion. BEFORE YOU GET monitors, GO AND LISTEN TO THEM UP CLOSE IN THE STORE, DON'T GO BY THE ADVERTISEMENT. Generally, the monitors are great, clean mids/highs, very low levels of distortion (I don't think there are any monitors at this price range with such low percentages). They are quite flat, have a fantastic stereo image, which you could only find at a price of 700€+. Finally, I repeat that this is my opinion after doing a lot of research before buying them for months, my advice is to listen to any pair before you buy it and draw your own conclusions.
