The philosophy of the members of the Vienna Circle interests us today because it is fertile and open to further reflection.
The Circle represents for us - beyond purely historical interest - a point of reference for the philosophical practice it established: with its writings, activities, events, and broader social interventions, the Circle shaped the academic philosophical community of the 20th century, while at the same time making it 'demanding' in terms of the ways of practicing philosophical activity.
It demonstrated practically how we collaborate to 'read' and do philosophy, how we engage in dialogue with other traditions (even in a combative and often 'rude' manner): it defined rules and shaped criteria, thereby influencing philosophical practice.
The goal of philosophical practice is always to establish a close relationship between philosophy, society, and science: this is the relationship we wish to restore today.
