Description

I hurried to include this monograph in the scientific series that I direct at the publishing house Herodotos, as I know that through it most of the problems related to waqfs in our country are responsibly resolved, and it also addresses a peculiar institution for us Westerners, which, however, solves numerous social issues in Muslim countries.

The importance of the institution is evident from the existence in Muslim states of a special ministry for waqfs, which bring significant economic benefits to these states. I also believe that, as deduced from the study, their exclusion from religious institutions does not lead them to potential tax exemptions if such provisions exist in favor of religious institutions in national legislations, and therefore, in the case of Greece, the waqfs existing in our country must or rather are obliged to pay the legally prescribed taxes.

The responsibility of the author guarantees the impeccable quality of this serious work, which is certainly based on the primary sources of Islam. "Dr. Kyriakos Th. Nikolaou-Patragas is the foremost authority to engage in this work, as he possesses all the guarantees that would allow him to do so."

As a deep connoisseur of Islamic law and its institutions, he examines waqfs exhaustively as they emerge from the sources of Sharia, presenting a comprehensive picture of them in a complex manner with precise and concise wording that is free from superfluities or repetitions.

The presentation of matters concerning waqfs, as articulated in the following monograph, includes everything related to them, thoroughly exhausting the topic and offering invaluable assistance and significant contribution to the Greek legal world.

I believe that this study should be taken seriously into account and should be duly utilized by both the Greek legislator and the Greek courts, which ought to align their practices with the content of this monograph.

Finally, I must congratulate the author for his choice and use of the pure modern Greek language, of which he is an excellent master.
