The choice of the right grain density depends on how smooth we want to make the surface:

• Small numbers, meaning fewer and larger grains per mm², are ideal for quickly leveling rough surfaces.
• Large numbers, meaning many and smaller grains per mm², are ideal for intense sanding and smooth finishing.

Typically, when sanding a surface, we start our sanding with medium grain numbers (e.g., No 80-100) and then sand for more detailed and careful work with larger grain numbers (e.g., No 180-220).
