Description

Description

"Diary 1939-1941" by Goebbels is a useful book for anyone interested in the modern history of Greece, as it includes previously unknown details about the Greco-Italian and Greco-German war of 1940-41.

The value of the "Diary" is mainly due to the fact that it was written by one of the highest-ranking officials of National Socialism, who was also Hitler's closest and most loyal associate. Goebbels knew everything because he participated in decision-making and describes them with a simplicity of style and precision.

But for an additional reason, the value of the "Diary" is significant, because when Goebbels was writing it, he certainly did not believe that Germany would lose the War and subsequently the Greeks would read the praises that the Germans gave them. Therefore, the "Diary" lacks any ulterior motives, and what is mentioned is genuine and sincere.

The text begins on January 1, 1939, and ends with several interruptions on July 8, 1941, and under the light of the information provided by Goebbels, the entire official or rather imposed view of World War II regarding Greece is overturned.
