The KEF LS50 Meta are professional-grade 2-way passive bookshelf speakers, designed for demanding Hi-Fi stereo listening and home entertainment systems. They are the evolution of the legendary LS50, incorporating Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) for the first time, which eliminates 99% of unwanted rear sound from the tweeter. They feature the 12th generation of the 5.25-inch Uni-Q coaxial driver array, delivering an exceptionally precise stereo image, low distortion and natural sound reproduction. The cabinet is built using CLD (Constrained Layer Damping) technology to eliminate internal resonances, while the rear features a flexible Bass-Reflex port with patented offset geometry for clean low-frequency performance.

Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT)
The KEF LS50 Meta are the world's first speakers to feature Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT). This complex labyrinth-like structure behind the tweeter has channels that effectively absorb specific frequencies. The result is the elimination of 99% of the unwanted sound emitted from the rear of the dome, delivering unprecedented clarity, naturalness and distortion-free high frequencies.
12th-Generation Uni-Q Coaxial Driver Array
The 12th-generation Uni-Q system places the 1-inch (25 mm) aluminium tweeter at the exact acoustic centre of the 5.25-inch (130 mm) mid/bass cone. This arrangement creates a single-point sound source (Point Source), ensuring even sound dispersion throughout the room and eliminating the “sweet spot” effect. The cone and surround have been redesigned with a new damping system for even lower colouration.
Cabinet Architecture, Flexible Port & Rigidity
The LS50 Meta cabinet features a curved front panel made from moulded DMC (Dough Moulding Compound) to prevent wave diffraction. Inside, Constrained Layer Damping (CLD), combined with internal bracing, dampens cabinet vibrations. At the rear, the bass-reflex port features flexible walls (Flexible Port) and carefully calculated offset geometry to prevent standing waves and midrange coloration.
