Review this product
  • I got it to paint the living room, and I can say that it really does have a strong smell and irritated my mucous membranes. Not so much while painting, but while it was drying. During the first few days, the paint gives off the characteristic chemical smell of plastic paint. Then, as the paint “sets,” it becomes a little more acidic. It remains this way for a long time, even months, according to the accounts of people who have used it. At first I thought the paint had been contaminated, so I washed the walls twice with a Kleenex bleach solution. Although I left it for two days before rinsing it off, so that it would be absorbed by the paint, there was no change in the smell.
    ....................
Vivechrom’s safety data sheet says that the smell is “characteristic” (that much is certain, I can say) and that “no data on odour thresholds are available.” In other words, as I understood it, the paint releases volatile compounds (VOCs) for a very long time after painting and the smell does not dissipate easily. It is far inferior to comparable products from other companies, which I had used for years and which never caused me a problem.
    ......................
As for the strong smell, if it does not go away within a month, and assuming it is unbearable, there are three ways to deal with it:
    1) Sand the wall with a sander and repaint. Use of a good-quality dust mask is essential.
    2) Coat the wall with paint-remover liquid, which will cause the paint to blister so it can be removed with a putty knife. This requires at least a half-face mask with a filter for organic gases/solvents.
    3) Apply at least two coats of solvent-based sealer primer to the walls, e.g. Monox by Chrotex, Gumilak metal primer, Smaltox Mono, or Shellac primer (if you can find it on the Greek market); once it has dried thoroughly, paint with plastic paint from another company, of course. When I spoke with company representatives, I was told that this solution will indeed reduce the smell, but there is a possibility it will not eliminate it. Unfortunately, odour migration is harder to deal with than stains.
    ...........
Simply repainting the wall, even with paint from another company, changes nothing, because the volatile compounds (VOCs) responsible for the smell can pass through the new plastic paint, and soon it will start smelling again. A sealer primer is needed to create a barrier that will prevent odour migration and “trap” the smells inside the wall.
    .....................
Otherwise, its coverage is good, but what good is that when the house smells so bad? The overall impression is very negative and, in my opinion, it should not be sold for interior use. It would be fine for exterior use, but not inside the house. It is not worth the effort and inconvenience. Rating: 1/5

Edit 26/09/2016: Eventually the walls stopped smelling, a month and a half after the initial painting, after I primed them with Smaltox Mono and repainted

I would never buy it if I had read reviews first.
The smell lasts from 6 to 9 months unless you go through the process of rubbing and painting from the beginning with doubtful results always
