The book “Contemporary Issues in Anti-Discrimination Law and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities” is a collective work that includes the proceedings of an international scientific conference co-organized in April 2018 in Thessaloniki.
The purpose of the work is to address contemporary topics in anti-discrimination law and to shed light on fundamental concepts of non-discrimination law, to present recent judicial developments in the field, as well as to explore specific themes that have particularly engaged case law and theory.
At the same time, the reader is presented with a very important international document in the field of anti-discrimination law. This is the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of December 13, 2006, which has been ratified not only by our country but also by a large number of national states, as well as by the EU itself.
The innovation of this Convention lies in the fact that it does not address the situation of persons with disabilities from the perspective of physical or mental incapacity, nor does it provide measures for their recovery. Instead, it approaches the issue of persons with disabilities in terms of human rights.
The selection of these themes and their thorough critical analysis by the authors provide an opportunity for further reflection.
