Summary

This book explores the stages and expressions of the multifaceted and little-known relationship of Angelos Terzakis, a leading representative of the highly debated generation of the 1930s, with cinema. It presents and comments on the numerous texts—published in magazines and newspapers—that Terzakis dedicates to cinema, discussing films, directors, actors, cinematic movements, issues of cinematic aesthetics, as well as the relationship between cinema and prose and theater.

The multifaceted dialogue, sometimes overt and sometimes cryptic, between the novelist and dramatist's work and cinema is examined. The Night Adventure (1954), the only film directed by Terzakis, is analyzed, related to the broader work of its creator and the critical reception of it is commented on, while relevant publications from the press of the time and notes found in the author's archive, located in the Gennadius Library, are also utilized.

The five other film scripts or screenplay drafts written by the creator during the 1950s-1960s are studied, sometimes original and sometimes based on his own prose works or plays. The research confirms that Night Adventure is not a simple and incidental engagement of Terzakis with the cinematic reality of Greece, but a natural conclusion of this restless intellectual's deep interest in the seventh art.
