This book presents and proposes the Conjunctive Group Therapy Model for patients with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), which emerged as a result of years of experience and knowledge regarding the disease in a hospital-based healthcare setting.
Diving into this scientific field is essential for managing T1D, as the course of the disease and the desired therapeutic outcome—namely blood sugar regulation, avoiding complications, and prevention—have thus far been studied mainly through the lens of Medical Science.
The combination of the psychological and organic aspects of the disease, as a necessary condition for achieving glycemic control, forms the foundation of the proposed Model, which focuses on the holistic psychosomatic care of the patient (as a 'Unified Self'), as shaped before and after the manifestation of the disease.
Blood sugar regulation is not self-evident; rather, it depends on psychosomatic parameters, daily challenges, changes, and life events. The proposed Model centers on this evolving process and simultaneously explores the sequence and connection of these parameters, situations, relationships, and emotions with the final therapeutic outcome.
Additionally, Clinical Applications of Group Intervention are presented based on this Model, attempting to highlight the effectiveness of psychological intervention groups in regulating the patient's blood sugar.
