Description

The history of the Greeks travels through time aboard the ship called the Greek language. Nautical skills and language have timelessly shaped the characteristics of this restless people, whose traces can be found deep in the past, about 4,000 years ago.

The Greeks played a pivotal role in antiquity in the eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea. Their language became a tool for learning as well as communication for many peoples of the broader region, as well as, later, for the emerging Christianity.

With their culture, they "captured" the Eastern Roman Empire, transforming it into the Byzantine Empire, and maintained spiritual alertness during the Ottoman occupation. With their revolution in 1821, they established the first national independent state in the eastern Mediterranean, connected with the Western world, expanded their borders, and positioned themselves among the peoples of modern Europe – and the world.

In this book, through discussions between history professor Maria Eythimiou and Makis Provatas, Hellenism is approached from its beginnings to the present, tracing the roots, foundations, and milestones of its history.

Behind dates and events, there are times and spaces of much greater significance. There are critical figures and incidents that are not always obvious. "Attention," according to Plato, is the soul's effort to learn. This book was written with deep attention.

Review this product
  • Paper quality
  • Was it easy to read?
  • Was it interesting enough?
  • I liked the writing style
  • I would read a book by the same author
  • I would recommend it for reading
  • The book is very good, with a style that "flows." The erudition of the interviewee is admirable, and her ability to communicate is exemplary. The journalist is cultivated, it shows, he is not mediocre, he constantly sparks the Professor, resulting in the book never becoming dull. It can be read in a weekend. So if you want Monday to find you "richer," you can secure it for a very low price...
