The distillery that produces the famous Plomari ouzo in Lesvos, Giannatsis, is definitely an interesting case. The distillery started distilling ouzo in 1932 and is the youngest of the four distilleries that have remained in Plomari. They find the best ingredients there to make their distillates. Grapes of exceptional quality, which were cultivated in Lesvos at that time, sweet anise from Lisvori, fennel and aromatic herbs from the surrounding mountains, and soft, gentle water from the Sedounta river that divides Plomari in two.
Today, the Plomari Giannatsis Distillery, fully compliant with the legal framework, utilizing modern technologies and dedicated to the deep knowledge of the art of distillation, continues consistently what it has been doing for the past eighty years. To produce high-quality products that travel everywhere and promote Greece and Lesvos worldwide.
