At lower numbers (e.g., 24, 36, 40…), we have fewer grains but of larger diameter, ideal for quickly smoothing rough surfaces. At higher numbers (e.g., 180, 220, 320…), we have more grains with a smaller diameter, ideal for intensive sanding and smooth finishing.
