For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Review this product
  • Paper quality
  • Was it easy to read?
  • Was it interesting enough?
  • I liked the writing style
  • I would read a book by the same author
  • I would recommend it for reading
  • ⚠️Trigger warnings: abandonment, domestic violence, sexual abuse, death
▫️A few words about the book: Where the Crawdads Sing is a book that falls between the categories of mystery, coming-of-age, and an ode to nature. The story follows Kya, a girl who grows up alone in a marsh in North Carolina. The society around her acts as if she practically does not exist, while very few people help her with the daily life she has to face on her own.
▪️Style/Writing: The writing of the book is quite atmospheric with very poetic, one could say, descriptions mainly concerning the nature around the marsh but also Kya's life. For me, the book was a slow burn as it gradually gave you the clues that led to the ending.
▫️Why I loved it: I really liked Kya's persistence and love for exploring the marsh and how she managed to improve her life and daily routine just from that. The story has a lot of depth, it is not shallow, and in the end, it makes you feel a certain sense of justice.
▪️Why you should read it: If you want to read a different coming-of-age story with a bit of mystery, then you should definitely start it. It has quite a few social messages and will definitely make you connect with Kya.
▫️Book or Movie: This is one of those cases where I will tell you both! I really liked the movie; I think it conveyed the story of the book to a great extent, without tiring or creating a different atmosphere from that of the book.
