Description

Description

The economic crisis is redefining the fundamental concepts of the state, governance, the constitution, sovereignty, European integration, emergency situations, and public interest. Epistemological starting points, interpretative preconceptions, or political doctrines that were once considered self-evident and non-negotiable are proving increasingly anachronistic and inadequate for explaining what is happening on the European continent and around the world since the outbreak of the crisis.

The crisis has highlighted the institutional and political deadlocks of the European project, bringing to light the multi-layered deficits of the union's architecture. In Greece, portrayed as the 'black sheep' of the Eurozone, the crisis has overturned central components of the post-Junta functioning of the political system.

The Memoranda have placed not only crucial issues of sovereignty at the center of public discourse, but also the questioning of the normative power of the constitution. The two-party system seems to be collapsing. Thus, the revival of politics is taking place in terms of dilemmas of unprecedented intensity.

The present volume is dedicated to the memory of Dimitris Tsatsos, who was not only a university teacher and active politician but also an intellectual who persistently intervened in public discourse, often shaping its agenda.

His Greek colleagues, students, peers, and friends dedicate to his memory, as wreaths for the deceased, the studies they compiled for him. The studies focus on: democracy, the rule of law, political parties, and Europe, especially during the time of the multiple crisis that our country and Europe are experiencing.

This volume includes contributions from: N. Alivizatos, E. Venizelos, A. Dimitropoulos, N. Kanellopoulou-Malouhu, G. Katroungalos, X. Kontiadis, I. Kriari-Katrani, A. Maniatakis, P. Mantzoufas, D. Melissas, A. I.-D. Metaxas, P. Pararas, P. Pavlopoulos, F. Spyropoulos, G. Soterelis, K. Tsoukalas, L. Tsoukalis, D. Charalampis, K. Chrysogonos.
