The literary genre of the royal statue represents the most essential and ornate expression of political discourse in Byzantium. It vividly captures the political thought of the Byzantines, which played a crucial role in establishing Byzantium as one of the longest-lasting empires in the history of humanity and inspired the political visions of many peoples who came into contact with it.

The two royal statues addressed to the emperor Leo VI the Wise artistically highlight the political atmosphere that prevailed in the palace during the reign of Basil I the Macedonian. At the same time, they reveal particular elements of the psyche and temperament of the alleged author of the examined texts Basil I (to the extent that they are understood and successfully expressed by their true creators) and their recipient Leo the Wise.

This book aims to integrate the two royal statues into the broader historical, political, and literary "becoming" of their time, as well as to firmly establish the issues of their authorship and dating, which have so far divided the international scientific community.
