Summary Philosophy? In the Middle Ages? Yes. Both the Christian Middle Ages - primarily - as well as the Arabic and Jewish traditions adopted (to varying degrees, methods, and pathways that differed across cultural spaces and historical times) the philosophical thought of classical, Hellenistic, Greco-Roman, and later Antiquity, but also of one another.

They grappled with older problems and advanced philosophical thought, particularly in the fields of logic, epistemology, philosophy of language, philosophy of religion, and metaphysics. This advancement was significantly contributed to by the creation of one of the most innovative institutions ever to appear, the medieval institution of the university.

As for the fact that medieval thinkers intertwined their philosophical thought with theological, this, according to the author, means that, respecting the historical context within which philosophy developed during the Middle Ages, we must, on the one hand, accurately diagnose the way these two aspects of their thought developed together and, on the other hand, focus on the philosophical aspect and assess it as such, just as we do with the philosophical thought of any other historical period.
