The management of the Covid-19 pandemic brought to the forefront a real "pandemic of interpretations" regarding the Constitution, institutions, rights, democracy, and the relationship of the State with globalization and the European Union.

The questions that emerged in the public debate were diverse and provocative. Was the Constitution disrupted by the restrictions imposed on rights and the functioning of democracy? Did the autonomy of politics get affected by the dominance of the "experts"? How is the widening of inequalities addressed, and how are political dilemmas articulated in times of pandemic?

Is globalization indeed retreating while dominant Nation States are dynamically returning? Is traditional Keynesianism re-emerging, or is a "new type" of interventionism rising? How is the EU's intervention assessed, and in what manner does addressing the crisis involve the economic and political unification of Europe?

The deconstruction of the myths of the "interpretative pandemic" becomes the opportunity to reflect on the future of constitutionalism on two levels: First, by reinstating the concept of the Constitution as a mechanism of checks and balances that allow democratic self-determination against any form of tyranny. Second, by discovering the virtues of a solidarity society of sharing and equal participation, where "social democracy" meets the mutual moral duties of citizens.
